"Nice name!" chittered SSSkkrrii, his mandibles making a humming, laughter-like sound. "Why didn't you just go all the way and call it 'Dirt'?"
SSSkkrrii was an insectivoid. With his shiny silver carapace, retractable black wings, and yellow and black fur-covered head, he looked like a cross between a huge ant and a giant bee. He was easily over 10 feet long from his antennae to his rear legs. Still, Presley rose up in anger and moved toward him.
Before Presley took two steps, what looked like a chain-link fence sprang up around him. When the "fence" spoke to him, he knew it had to be their robotic counselor, Core. "Sit down immediately and cease this foolishness or you will be returned to your quarters for a time-out. Is this clear?"
Presley nodded glumly in agreement. He sat back down as the robot changed from a fence to its regular humanoid shape and rolled up to the front of the group. Presley returned his attention to the view port as the robot started talking. He'd heard all this before; the proud history of Camp Dimensions, what an honor it was to be chosen to represent your race here at the camp, the last campers have finally arrived and it's time to choose partners. "Wait a minute," he thought. "What was that last thing? CHOOSE PARTNERS! Oh, no."
Presley spun around in his seat just in time to see the rest of the group happily gathered in groups of four. The only other being still seated was SSSkkrrii. "Well," said Core, "since you two aren't yet partnered, you will join our two latecomers to make up the last group. You may go up to arrival bay 3 to greet your missing group mates now."
To be continued all the time...
